Messer in driver's seat to face Burton
By Jim Shella

Messer emerging as top contender to Burton
By Jeff Tucker
...Messer had raised a total of $332,442 since launching his campaign for the 5th Congressional District in Shelbyville on April 2, closing in on Burton of Indianapolis, who is seeking a 15th two-year term.

...Messer's campaign said more than 92 percent of his contributors are Hoosiers, and 72 percent reside in the counties comprising the solidly Republican 5th District that includes all of Grant, Hamilton, Hancock, Huntington, Miami, Tipton and Wabash counties, and parts of Howard, Johnson, Marion and Shelby counties, including Shelbyville.
Messer said he received contributions from 686 individuals and from each of the 11 counties in the district, with no contributions from political action committees.
"The bottom line is that this is a true grassroots team effort," said Messer, who was recently a partner at the Indianapolis law firm of Ice Miller but is now practicing law at his own law firm in Shelbyville. "Hoosiers are coming together and stepping forward to make a difference for our state and our country."
